Managing the Tension Faith & Our Responsibility

Managing the Tension Faith & Our Responsibility

One of the most consistent questions I receive from faith-led entrepreneurs and leaders is “how do I balance my tenacity and ambition (“force”) with trusting God to provide (“faith”)?

You know you are called to put your trust in God, to relinquish control, to surrender to His plan, but at the same time you are keenly aware that you can’t sit there and do nothing. In fact, you credit much of your tenacity to achieve through sheer grit and determination, no matter what the obstacle is in your way.

When should you be stepping back in faith and trusting God to provide, & when should you be taking massive action to “make it happen” no matter what?

Thus, you feel the tension: Faith vs. Force.

BUT…

  • What if there was no tension between these two?
  • What if faith and force weren’t opposing ideas on either end of a teeter-totter and you don’t have to seek to find a balance between them?
  • What if it was okay to have tenacity, determination, and be driven toward accomplishing a goal, while simultaneously trusting God to direct your decisions?
  • What if it was possible to operate with 100% force and 100% faith?

The reason we wrestle with these two seemingly opposing concepts is because we’re asking the wrong question.

Stop asking “What’s the balance between faith and force?” – and start asking “What’s FUELING my ‘force’?”

The question isn’t “Should I push forward?”
It’s “What’s powering my push?”
FAITH OR FEAR?

If you’re honest, what’s really fueling your desire to grow, to achieve, & accomplish more?

  • Fear of falling behind?
  • Fear of not being enough? (so you have to prove you are)
  • Fear of losing out on a desired future?
  • Fear of failing?
  • Fear of losing control?
  • Fear of not being liked, accepted, or loved?

It’s not about balance. It’s about integration.

It’s not either/or, it’s because/I will

Because I trust God, I will act boldly.
Because I believe in His provision, I will take calculated risks.
Because I surrender outcomes to Him, I will show up with relentless commitment.

Stop attempting to strike a balance between faith and force. Instead, ask God to align your heart so the actions you take flow from faith rather than fear.

3 Questions to Ask Yourself:

“In my business, what is fueling my force? Where might fear, pride, jealousy, or control be motivating my actions and I’m calling it diligence?”

“What would it look like for me to lead with full force, anchored in full trust?”

“What’s my assignment in this season? What’s mine to act on, and what’s God’s to carry?”
